Tuncay Akdoğan — Biography
Tuncay Akdoğan (1959, Adana - 21 November 2004, Istanbul) was a Turkish musician, singer and record producer. His date of birth is recorded only to year precision. German-language sources describe him as a singer from the Alevi tradition.
He was among the founding members of Grup Yorum, one of the best-known ensembles in Turkish political music, and later of Grup Kızılırmak. Grup Yorum, now approaching its fortieth year, has released more than twenty albums and has faced a large number of court cases over the decades, while Grup Kızılırmak carried the same tradition forward.
As a producer he also shaped other musicians' paths. İlkay Akkaya, a co-founder of Grup Kızılırmak, said in later interviews that she had been planning a career in journalism and became a singer thanks to Akdoğan. He died in Istanbul on 21 November 2004.
