Tunay Torun — Biography
Tunay Torun is a winger who was born in Hamburg and developed in German youth football, but chose Turkey and rose to the senior national team. His club career ran from the Bundesliga to the Süper Lig, and afterwards he began working as an assistant coach in Hertha Berlin's youth setup. He holds both Turkish and German citizenship; his family originally comes from Salıpazarı in Samsun.
He started in 1996 at FC St. Pauli and ten years later moved into Hamburger SV's youth setup. He made his Bundesliga debut as a substitute against Karlsruher SC in 2008, scored his first goal against Mainz in 2009 and played in the Europa League that season. At Hertha Berlin, where he arrived in 2011 on a three-year deal, he scored against his old club Hamburg, but the team was relegated. In 2012 he joined VfB Stuttgart on a free transfer and opened with a goal and an assist in the cup, but injuries and limited minutes kept him from establishing himself.
Signing for Kasımpaşa in January 2014 opened the Turkish chapter. He then wore the shirts of İstanbul Başakşehir (2017) and, on loan, Bursaspor (2018-19), also played for Çaykur Rizespor and Fatih Karagümrük, and returned to Kasımpaşa in 2022. He played for Turkey's national teams from U-15 to U-21, turned down Germany's U-18 side, and made his senior debut against South Korea on 9 February 2011. He stands 1.79 m tall.
