Tuna Aktürk — Biography

Businessman and civil engineer Tuna Aktürk is best known for presiding over Balıkesirspor from 2010 to 2015, a period in which the club rose from the second division to the Süper Lig. In business he is known as the largest shareholder and a board member of the construction company Veta Yapı.

Born in Balıkesir, Aktürk graduated in 1999 from the civil engineering department of Balıkesir University's Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. He entered local politics in the 2009 elections, winning a municipal council seat on the MHP list, and served as the deputy mayor responsible for technical affairs at Balıkesir Municipality. In 2010 he was elected president of Balıkesirspor, which had just been promoted to the second division, and he was re-elected at the general assemblies of 2013 and 2014. In the 2015-16 season, while the first team was playing in the First League, the club leadership called an extraordinary general assembly, and Aktürk stepped down by not standing again at that congress.
