Tuğçe San — Biography

Tuğçe San (born 24 December 1971 in İzmir) is a Turkish pop singer. Some records give her year of birth as 1972.

She came to prominence with the 1996 song "Neredesin?" ("Where Are You?"). Her stage costumes and the snakes she posed with in her videos made her one of the most memorable figures of Turkish pop in the 1990s, and the song and its video continued to appear in retrospective rankings of the best Turkish music videos long afterwards.

San gave up music in 1998, withdrew from public life in Turkey and settled in the United States with her children. She returned to public attention through interviews given in 2018 and 2022, in which she reflected on the music scene of her era and argued that her stage persona had been ahead of its time.
