Tolgay Arslan — Biography
Tolgay Ali Arslan (born 16 August 1990 in Paderborn) is a German former professional footballer of Turkish descent who played as a midfielder. Raised in Germany and holding both German and Turkish citizenship, he represented both countries at youth international level. He stands 1.79 m tall.
Hamburger SV was his main Bundesliga home: apart from a one-year interruption he spent five and a half seasons at the club. He later played in Turkey for Beşiktaş and Fenerbahçe, then moved to Melbourne City in Australia and finally to the J1 League side Sanfrecce Hiroshima.
On 27 May 2026, aged 35, he announced his retirement from football, calling it "one of the hardest decisions of my life". The announcement, made after his spell in Hiroshima, was widely covered in the Turkish press.
