Tolga Karaçelik — Biography
Tolga Karaçelik was born in Istanbul in 1981, the son of a painter mother and a shipowner father. After graduating from Koç Private High School, he earned a law degree from Marmara University, but chose cinema over a legal career and went on to study filmmaking in New York.
He launched his directing career with Toll Booth (2010) and reached wider audiences with Kurtuluş Son Durak (2012), which won him the Golden Orange Award for Best Director. He continued building an international festival following with later films such as Ivy (2015) and Butterflies (2018).
His black comedy Psycho Therapy, starring Steve Buscemi, premiered in 2024 and later opened in Turkish cinemas as well. Karaçelik, who married Tuğçe Altuğ in 2018, continues to work on new film projects.
