Vow of Chastity is a 1976 Italian erotic comedy directed by Joe D'Amato, who also served as its cinematographer, from a story and screenplay by George Eastman. The cast includes Jacques Dufilho, Gastone Pescucci and Laura Gemser. The film shifts in tone between playful comedy and eroticism while also touching on weightier material, such as the protagonist's Oedipus complex and a nightmarish dream sequence with splatter elements; these contrasts drew both criticism and praise. The picture is also remembered as the first collaboration between D'Amato and Gemser, who quickly formed a friendship and a lasting professional partnership. Gemser went on to appear in many of his films and additionally worked as a costume designer on his productions.
