A Self Made Hero (Un héros très discret)

A Self-Made Hero (Un héros très discret) is a 1996 French drama directed by Jacques Audiard, who co-wrote the screenplay with Alain Le Henry and Jean-François Deniau. Audiard's second feature, it is adapted from Deniau's novel of the same name. The story is told in the style of a historical documentary: the elderly Dehousse recounts his life, intercut with interviews featuring other characters and historians.

The film premiered in competition at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the award for Best Screenplay, and received six César nominations in 1997. Mathieu Kassovitz and Albert Dupontel lead the cast, alongside Sandrine Kiberlain, Jean-Louis Trintignant and François Berléand. Patrick Godeau produced the film, with music composed by Alexandre Desplat.
