Tom & Thomas

The English-language family film Tom & Thomas came about in 2002 as a Dutch and British co-production. Released in the UK as The Christmas Twins, it sits where drama, family film and Christmas film meet and runs about 110 minutes. It reached Dutch cinemas on January 24, 2002. Esmé Lammers directed and wrote the screenplay, and she wrote the book the film draws on together with Hans Kuyper.

At the centre are two boys, Thomas and his lookalike Tom. Separated years earlier, they find each other by chance and are swept into a dangerous adventure. Their attention from a corrupt orphanage director puts them up against a child-trafficking ring. Sean Bean plays the caring adoptive father of one of the twins. Aaron Johnson and Sean Bean head the cast, and the film was Johnson's screen debut.

The cast also includes Derek de Lint, Geraldine James, Inday Ba, Sean Harris, Bill Stewart, Lou Landré and Evrim Akyiğit. Filming took place in London, Amsterdam and Haarlem, with artificial snow used for the winter scenes.
