The Wolverine

The Wolverine is a 2013 superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character. It is the sixth installment of the X-Men film series and the second solo Wolverine outing after X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009). Directed by James Mangold from a screenplay by Scott Frank and Mark Bomback, adapted from Chris Claremont and Frank Miller's 1982 comic book arc, the film stars Hugh Jackman as Logan alongside Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima, Hiroyuki Sanada, Will Yun Lee, Svetlana Khodchenkova and Famke Janssen.

Set after the events of X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), the story follows a guilt-ridden Logan to Japan, where he answers a summons from Ichirō Yashida, an officer whose life he saved during the 1945 bombing of Nagasaki. Stripped of his healing powers, Wolverine must battle Yakuza thugs, ninjas and the Silver Samurai. Shot in New South Wales and Tokyo in 2012 and converted to 3D in post-production, the film was released by 20th Century Fox in July 2013 to generally positive reviews and grossed roughly $415 million worldwide. A third solo film, Logan, followed in 2017.
