The Rose Garden

The Rose Garden is a 1989 German-Austrian-American drama directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Fons Rademakers. Scripted by Paul Hengge and Artur Brauner, the film is based on journalist Günther Schwarberg's work on the Bullenhuser Damm memorial and was produced by Brauner's CCC together with Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus's Cannon Group. The story follows public defender Gabriele Schlüter-Freund as she takes on the case of Aaron Reichenbach, a Holocaust survivor who assaulted an elderly man at Frankfurt Airport, and gradually uncovers that the victim is a former Nazi officer responsible for atrocities in the concentration camps. Starring Liv Ullmann, Maximilian Schell and Peter Fonda, with Özay Fecht also in the cast, the 112-minute film was released on December 22, 1989.
