The Pod Generation

The Pod Generation is a 2023 science fiction romantic comedy written and directed by Sophie Barthes. A co-production between Belgium, France, and the United Kingdom, it stars Emilia Clarke and Chiwetel Ejiofor, with Rosalie Craig, Vinette Robinson, and Jean-Marc Barr in supporting roles.

Set in the near future, this social satire follows Alvy, a botanist who has lost faith in a world where technology dominates every aspect of life, and his partner Rachel. The couple decides to have a child using the portable artificial womb offered by the tech company Pegasus, a choice that leads them into strange and comical situations. The film humorously examines parenthood at the intersection of technology, nature, and society.

The film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on 19 January 2023, where it won the Alfred P. Sloan Prize. Vertical Entertainment acquired the North American rights and gave the film a limited theatrical release on 11 August 2023.
