The Frontier

Die Grenze is a two-part German television drama from 2010, directed by Roland Suso Richter and aired on Sat.1 as one of the broadcaster's flagship event productions. The screenplay was written by Christoph Darnstädt, Christoph Fromm and Friedemann Fromm, with TeamWorx producing alongside Sat.1. Shooting took place in a number of German towns and cities, among them Rostock, Warnemünde, Berlin, Stralsund and Sassnitz. Conceived on a large scale with a combined running time of roughly three hours, the production assembled an ensemble of prominent performers from German film and television, including Benno Fürmann, Thomas Kretschmann, Anja Kling, Marie Bäumer, Uwe Kockisch and Katja Riemann. Its ambitious scope, recognizable cast and widespread location work made it a typical example of the high-profile event movies German broadcasters commissioned during that period.
