The Dreamlife of Angels
The Dreamlife of Angels (La Vie rêvée des anges) is a 1998 French drama film directed by Érick Zonca, who co-wrote the screenplay with Roger Bohbot. It follows the friendship between Isa, an optimistic twenty-year-old who drifts from town to town with everything she owns in a backpack and survives on odd jobs, and Marie, a fragile young woman with an opposite temperament. The two share the apartment of a family lying in a coma, but Marie's pursuit of a lasting bond with a local nightclub owner gradually pulls the friends apart.
Starring Élodie Bouchez, Natacha Régnier and Grégoire Colin, the film earned its two leads a shared Best Actress prize at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival. It went on to win three César Awards in 1999, including Best Film, and was selected as France's entry for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
