The Anarchist's Wife

The Anarchist's Wife (original Spanish title: La mujer del anarquista) is a 2008 historical drama co-produced by Spain, Germany and France, directed by Marie Noëlle and Peter Sehr from a screenplay by Ray Loriga and Noëlle. The film was shot in Spanish and French.

Set during the Spanish Civil War, it tells the love story between Manuela (María Valverde), a passionate woman ahead of her time, and her husband Justo (Juan Diego Botto), a lawyer and anarchist leader. When the war ends, Justo is considered a fugitive by Franco's regime, and Manuela — who loves him more than the revolution and its ideals — keeps waiting for his return, unable to search for him openly without putting herself in grave danger. Ivana Baquero and Jean-Marc Barr also appear in the cast. The film won the Bernhard Wicki Award at the 2008 Munich Film Festival and screened the same year at the Valladolid International Film Festival.
