RED 2
Following the 2010 film Red, which Robert Schwentke directed, RED 2 continues the story as an American action comedy. Dean Parisot directed from a script by Jon and Erich Hoeber. The story descends from the three-part comic by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner that DC Comics published through its Homage Comics imprint in 2003 and 2004. The title RED stands for “retired, extremely dangerous.” The film premiered in Los Angeles on 11 July 2013 and opened in the United States on 19 July and in Turkey on 2 August. Reviews were mixed.
Retired CIA agent Frank Moses is dealing with rumours that his old partner Marvin Boggs is dead when FBI agents show up, hunting a nuclear weapon that was used twenty-five years earlier and then vanished. Persuaded to look into the operation, called Nightshade, the veteran agents set off on a world tour of terrorists and assassins, chasing across Europe. Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Mary-Louise Parker and Helen Mirren return from the first film. Catherine Zeta-Jones, Anthony Hopkins and Lee Byung-hun, as a Korean “master killer,” join as newcomers, with Brian Cox, Neal McDonough and Philip Arditti also featured.
Alan Silvestri composed the music, and the producers include Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian. A further sequel was announced in 2013 but never made.
