Police
Police is a 1985 French crime drama and neo-noir directed by Maurice Pialat. Running about 113 minutes, it is adapted from P. J. Wolfson's novel Bodies Are Dust. Catherine Breillat wrote the screenplay, and Pialat and Jacques Fieschi are also credited among its writers. The leading roles go to Gérard Depardieu, Sophie Marceau and Sandrine Bonnaire.
The story centres on Mangin, a moody, jaded police detective played by Depardieu. While investigating a drug ring in Paris he falls for a mysterious woman and is drawn into a shadowy, dangerous scheme. Besides the three leads, the cast includes Artus de Penguern, Pascale Rocard, Richard Anconina and Jacques Mathou.
Depardieu won the best actor prize at the Venice Film Festival for playing Mangin, and the film was nominated for the César awards. Produced with Gaumont and TF1, it sold 1,830,970 tickets in France.
