One Tough Cop

One Tough Cop is a 1998 American action crime film directed by Brazilian filmmaker Bruno Barreto from a screenplay by Jeremy Iacone. The film adapts the autobiographical book by Bo Dietl, a real-life New York City detective whose experiences inspired the story. Stephen Baldwin stars as Dietl and also serves as the film's first-person narrator, while Chris Penn plays his partner on the force. Gina Gershon, Mike McGlone and Paul Guilfoyle appear in other key roles. Blending drama and thriller elements, the picture follows a hardened detective navigating the dangers of police work in New York, where his professional battles on the streets collide with the pressures of his personal life. The supporting ensemble also includes Amy Irving, Michael Rispoli and Luis Guzmán.
