Needle Park Baby
Needle Park Baby (German: Platzspitzbaby) is a 2020 Swiss drama film directed by Pierre Monnard and written by André Küttel. It adapts the 2013 autobiographical book of the same name by Michelle Halbheer, written together with journalist Franziska K. Müller, in which Halbheer recounts her childhood with her mother.
The story follows eleven-year-old Mia who, after the open drug scenes at Zurich's Platzspitz park and the Letten area were shut down in the spring of 1995, moves with her addicted mother to the Zurich Oberland. The film portrays the difficult life of a mother struggling with substance abuse and the young daughter who remains devoted to her.
Produced by C-Films and shot in Swiss German, the picture became the most successful theatrical release in Switzerland in 2020. The cast includes Jerry Hoffmann.
