Maryam and Mitil

Maryam and Mitil (Persian: مریم و میتیل) is a 1992 Iranian drama film directed by Fathali Oveisi, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jafar Vali. Produced by Morteza Shayesteh, the Persian-language film runs 100 minutes and opened in Iranian cinemas in August 1993.

At the heart of the story is six-year-old Maryam, who lives in an orphanage. Curious about what it would be like to grow up within a family and longing to fill the emptiness in her life, the little girl faces many obstacles, drawing her greatest strength from her own determination. The film belongs to the strong tradition of Iranian cinema that places a child's perspective at its center.

The cast includes Afsaneh Bayegan, Hamid Jebelli, Hamideh Kheirabadi, Niyaz Taremi, Parviz Shafi'Zadeh and Mohammad Varshochi.
