Marienhof

Marienhof is a German soap opera that premiered on Das Erste on 1 October 1992 and broadcast its final episode on 15 June 2011. Produced by Bavaria Film at Grünwald-Geiselgasteig near Munich, the show follows the everyday lives of the residents of Marienhof, a fictional suburb of Cologne.

Initially a weekly programme, it switched to a daily early-evening slot on 2 January 1995. Over its long run the series became known for tackling social issues such as homelessness, homosexuality, cancer, drug abuse, rape, child abuse, AIDS, suicide and murder.

Cancelled in February 2011 amid falling ratings, Marienhof closed with a total of 4,053 episodes across 18 seasons. Its large ensemble over the years included Giovanni Arvaneh and Özgür Özata.
