Maigret in Society (Maigret et le mort amoureux)

Maigret in Society is a 2026 French-Belgian crime drama written and directed by Pascal Bonitzer. Its French title is Maigret et le mort amoureux, and in English it is called Maigret and the Dead Lover; during development it was known as Maigret et le crime de la rue de Bellechasse. The film draws on Georges Simenon's 1960 novel Maigret et les Vieillards and opened in February 2026. Saïd Ben Saïd is named as producer.

An urgent call brings Commissioner Maigret (Denis Podalydès) to the Quai d'Orsay: a distinguished former ambassador has been murdered at home, his body found by his housekeeper. For fifty years the diplomat had kept up a love correspondence with a princess, whose husband, by a strange coincidence, has just died. Facing a housekeeper who will not cooperate and the members of two families, Maigret investigates among the dead man's inner circle.

Denis Podalydès leads the cast, with Irène Jacob and Anne Alvaro also appearing.
