Lejos del mar

Lejos del mar is a 2015 Spanish drama and thriller film written and directed by Imanol Uribe. It stars Eduard Fernández and Elena Anaya. Set in Andalusia, the story centres on a repentant member of Euskadi Ta Askatasuna who leaves prison under the Parot doctrine; he moves to the province of Almería to visit a former prison mate and falls in love with the daughter of one of his victims. A Maestranza Films and Suroeste Films production, the film was shot mostly around Cabo de Gata and at indoor locations in Almería. It had its world premiere on 24 September 2015 at the 63rd San Sebastián International Film Festival, where the press screening was met with derisive laughter. After the distribution deal, its commercial release was postponed several times; distributed by Vértice 360, it finally opened in Spanish cinemas on 2 September 2016.
