Le rempart des Béguines
Le rempart des Béguines is a 1972 French-Italian drama directed by Guy Casaril, who also adapted the screenplay himself. Nicole Courcel and Anicée Alvina lead the cast, with Harry-Max and Venantino Venantini in supporting roles. The story is drawn from a 1951 novel of the same title by Belgian writer Françoise Mallet-Joris, and its setting closely echoes Antwerp, the author's own hometown.
Beyond its coming-of-age narrative, the picture explores questions of social class alongside a relationship that crosses generational lines between two women, a subject reflected in the work's classification as an LGBTQ-related drama. The film opened in French cinemas on 20 September 1972.
