La Passione

La Passione is a 2010 Italian comedy directed by Carlo Mazzacurati. The 106-minute colour film, a dramatic comedy co-written by Mazzacurati and Umberto Contarello, was co-produced by Fandango and Rai Cinema. It competed for the Golden Lion at the 67th Venice International Film Festival and opened in Italian cinemas on 24 September 2010.

At its centre is Gianni Dubois, a television director and screenwriter in a creative crisis, played by Silvio Orlando. A lawsuit is about to be filed against him, and his only way out is to accept the job he is offered: to stage and film a traditional Passion play about the suffering of Christ in a small Tuscan village. Taken on against his will, the assignment puts the weary director among the village's colourful inhabitants and on an unexpected professional and personal journey.

The cast includes Giuseppe Battiston, Kasia Smutniak, Cristiana Capotondi, Corrado Guzzanti and Stefania Sandrelli, along with Marco Messeri, Maria Paiato, Paolo Graziosi, Gianfranco Barra and Tommaso Ragno.
