The Insider (Köstebek)

The Insider is a 1999 American biographical thriller directed by Michael Mann, who co-wrote the screenplay with Eric Roth. The script adapts Marie Brenner's Vanity Fair article “The Man Who Knew Too Much” and dramatizes the true story of Jeffrey Wigand, a tobacco industry research executive who decided to expose his former employer's practices, and CBS producer Lowell Bergman's struggle to air the controversial 60 Minutes segment against efforts to discredit and suppress it.

Al Pacino and Russell Crowe lead the cast, with Christopher Plummer, Bruce McGill, Diane Venora, Philip Baker Hall and Gina Gershon in supporting roles. Although not a box-office success, the film received widespread critical acclaim, particularly for Crowe's portrayal of Wigand and Mann's direction, and earned seven Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Crowe.
