Incognito

Incognito is an American crime thriller directed by John Badham from a screenplay by Jordan Katz and produced by Morgan Creek Entertainment. Starring Jason Patric and Irène Jacob, the film was completed in 1997 and released in some territories in 1998. The cast also includes veteran performers such as Ian Richardson, Rod Steiger and Ian Holm.

The story follows a gifted New York painter able to flawlessly copy the works of great masters. Unable to gain recognition for his own original art and pressured by his dying father, he accepts a lucrative commission to forge a long-lost Rembrandt. During his research he grows close to a Rembrandt expert played by Irène Jacob, but when the forgery scheme turns into a murder plot, he becomes a fugitive. The film is especially noted for its sequence revealing the technical details of art forgery, including canvas aging and the use of period-correct paints.
