In Prison Awaiting Trial

In Prison Awaiting Trial (Italian: Detenuto in attesa di giudizio) is a 1971 Italian prison film directed by Nanni Loy, from a screenplay by Sergio Amidei and Emilio Sanna. Rooted in the commedia all'italiana tradition, it was widely praised for its sharp critique of the Italian judicial system. Alberto Sordi stars as the prisoner Giuseppe Di Noi, supported by Elga Andersen, Lino Banfi, Andrea Aureli, Nazzareno Natale and Mario Pisu.

The film was entered into the 22nd Berlin International Film Festival, where Sordi won the Silver Bear for Best Actor for what was one of his rare dramatic roles; the performance also earned him a David di Donatello award.
