Everything Went Fine
Written and directed by François Ozon, the 2021 French comedy-drama Everything Went Fine (original title: Tout s'est bien passé) is based on the autobiographical memoir by Emmanuèle Bernheim recounting her own experience with her father, who asked her to help him die. The film had its world premiere on 7 July 2021 in competition at the 74th Cannes Film Festival and opened in French cinemas on 22 September 2021.
When writer Emmanuelle, played by Sophie Marceau, learns that her 85-year-old father André (André Dussollier) has suffered a stroke, she rushes to his side. Unwilling to go on living this way, her father asks her from his hospital bed to help him end his life, leaving her torn between granting his wish and trying to change his mind. The cast also includes Géraldine Pailhas, Charlotte Rampling and Hanna Schygulla.
