Colonel Chabert

Colonel Chabert is a 1994 French historical drama film directed by Yves Angelo. Adapted from Honoré de Balzac's novel of the same name, it is the sixth screen version of the story. The film stars Gérard Depardieu, Fanny Ardant and Fabrice Luchini, with a supporting cast that includes Jacky Nercessian, Claude Rich, Daniel Prévost, Albert Delpy and André Dussollier. The screenplay was written by Yves Angelo, Jean Cosmos and Véronique Lagrange, and the film runs 110 minutes.

Shot in France and released in French, the film was warmly received by critics and was nominated for six César Awards. An earlier film adaptation of Balzac's novel, starring Raimu, had been made some fifty years before, during the German occupation of France.
