Children of Sarajevo
Children of Sarajevo (original title Djeca) is a 2012 drama film written and directed by Bosnian filmmaker Aida Begić. Shot in Bosnian, it is a co-production of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, France and Turkey, with Semih Kaplanoğlu and TRT among the co-producers.
The story follows Rahima and Nedim, a sister and brother orphaned during the Bosnian war of the 1990s, as they struggle to build a life in post-war Sarajevo. Marija Pikić plays Rahima and Ismir Gagula plays Nedim.
The film screened in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, where it received a special distinction. It was chosen as Bosnia and Herzegovina's submission for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 85th Academy Awards but was not shortlisted, and it picked up several prizes at Pesaro, including Best Film.
