Inferno is a 2016 American mystery thriller directed by Ron Howard, with a screenplay by David Koepp adapted from Dan Brown's 2013 novel. Following The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, it forms the third and final chapter of the Robert Langdon film series. Tom Hanks returns as Langdon, joined by Felicity Jones, Omar Sy, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Ben Foster and Irrfan Khan.

The story finds Langdon waking in a Florence hospital with no memory of recent events, suddenly the target of a gunman determined to kill him. Aided by doctor Sienna Brooks and drawing on his gift for reading symbols, he flees across Europe while following clues tied to Dante's Divine Comedy. The trail leads to a wealthy businessman plotting to unleash a deadly plague on the world, a catastrophe only Langdon's recovering memories can prevent, with the chase eventually reaching Istanbul. Shot in Venice and Budapest in 2015, the film opened in October 2016. Critics were largely unfavorable, yet it earned roughly $220 million worldwide against a production budget of about $75 million.
