Anchor and Hope

Anchor and Hope (Spanish: Tierra firme) is a 2017 Spanish-British romantic comedy-drama directed by Carlos Marqués-Marcet. The screenplay by Marqués-Marcet and Jules Nurrish drew inspiration from María Llopis's 2015 book Maternidades subversivas. It follows Eva and Kat, two women leading a carefree life on a London canal boat: when Eva's wish for a child threatens their bohemian existence, their friend Roger arrives from Barcelona and the trio toy with the idea of making a baby together, only to find their bond strained as future plans take shape. Starring Oona Chaplin, Natalia Tena, David Verdaguer and Geraldine Chaplin, the film world-premiered at the BFI London Film Festival on 10 October 2017 and was later listed by IndieWire among the best LGBTQ films of 2018.
