American Dreamer

American Dreamer is a 1984 American romantic comedy-thriller directed by Rick Rosenthal, from a screenplay by Ann Biderman, David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf. The film stars JoBeth Williams and Tom Conti.

Cathy Palmer, an unassuming American housewife with a passion for detective fiction, wins a trip to Paris through a mystery-writing contest. Her holiday takes an unexpected turn when a passing car knocks her down and wipes out her memory. Waking up convinced that she is Rebecca Ryan, the fearless and glamorous sleuth from her own stories, Cathy throws herself into the role, and her imaginary adventures soon collide with genuine danger and intrigue in the French capital. The film plays the confusion between fantasy and reality for both laughs and suspense, set against a lively Paris backdrop.
