Tınaz Tırpan

Tınaz Tırpan — Biography

Tınaz Tırpan is a coach best known for managing the Turkey national team in 1988-89, with roots in Fenerbahçe. Born in Ankara, he came through Fenerbahçe's youth side and played for Fenerbahçe and several Anatolian clubs. After moving into coaching he managed, besides the national team, Fenerbahçe, Kayserispor, MKE Ankaragücü and Bucheon SK in South Korea.

He took over the national team in 1988 after Mustafa Denizli; his first match was a 1-0 away defeat to Hungary on 16 March 1988. Under him Turkey came very close to qualifying for the 1990 World Cup, but lost the final qualifier 2-0 to the Soviet Union and missed out. After the national team he took charge of Fenerbahçe in 1990, a post that lasted only five weeks.

In the 1999-2000 season he coached MKE Ankaragücü and led the club to UEFA Cup qualification. After two years away from football he was appointed head coach of Bucheon SK in 2002, and lasted one season because of poor results. In later interviews he has said he dislikes seeing so many foreign players on the pitch and that he took pleasure when his players played good football.
