Tijen Karaş — Biography

Born on 28 January 1975 in Ankara, Tijen Karaş studied sociology at Hacettepe University. She began her broadcasting career at TRT International before moving to TRT Haber, where she also wrote a column titled "Sanat ve Politika."

On the night of 15 July 2016, when soldiers involved in the coup attempt seized the TRT building, Karaş was forced at gunpoint to read the plotters' declaration live on air. The episode instantly made her one of Turkey's most talked-about faces, as viewers first learned of the self-declared "Peace at Home Council" through her broadcast.
