Tayfun Talipoğlu — Biography

Tayfun Talipoğlu was a Turkish journalist, television presenter, columnist and children's book author, born in Kars on 3 August 1962 and died in the Konak district of İzmir on 21 March 2017. He graduated from Ankara University's Faculty of Political Science in 1983; after his political views cost him a career as a district governor, he worked a string of odd jobs before entering journalism as a reporter for the Milliyet newspaper. Following stints as a reporter for Star TV and atv, he wrote and hosted the program Bam Teli from 1995 onward across atv, NTV, TRT 1, TV8 and finally Halk TV, while also writing columns for the newspapers Takvim, Yeni Yüzyıl and Cumhuriyet.

Talipoğlu authored several books, including Benim Yolum, Eskiyen Yüzümün Yeni Gülümseyişi and Eşekle Gelen Aydınlık, and also released recordings of poetry and folk songs. He served as UNICEF Turkey's Goodwill Ambassador from October 2007 until his death, and stood as a Republican People's Party (CHP) candidate for parliament in Aydın in the 2015 general election, though he was not elected. He died at age 54 after falling ill at his home in İzmir on the night of 21 March 2017.
