Tayfun Talipoğlu — Biography

Tayfun Talipoğlu was a journalist, television presenter and author, best known for Bam Teli, a programme he prepared and hosted from 1995. He took it from atv to NTV, TRT 1, TV8 and finally Halk TV. His career moved between reporting, television, newspaper columns, books and recordings of folk songs, and from October 2007 he also served as UNICEF Turkey's Goodwill Ambassador.

He graduated from the Public Administration department of Ankara University's Faculty of Political Science in 1983. After graduating he took a range of jobs, from cargo delivery to singing with orchestras at wedding halls, before starting in journalism as a Milliyet reporter and then working as a news reporter at Star TV and atv. Bam Teli began on atv in 1995 and later aired on NTV (1999-2008), TRT 1 (2008-2010), TV8 (2011-2012) and, from 2016, Halk TV. On TRT 1 he also hosted a discussion programme, Nasılsınız. He wrote columns for the newspapers Takvim, Yeni Yüzyıl and Cumhuriyet.

His writing ran alongside his television work. His books include Benim Yolum, Ne Çoktular Ne Kadar Çocuktular, Eskiyen Yüzümün Yeni Gülümseyişi, Çoluk Çocuk Yazıları and Eşekle Gelen Aydınlık, and he released the poetry and folk-song cassettes Seyyah and Bam Teli Yol Müzikleri. He died in the Konak district of İzmir on 21 March 2017, aged 54; in its condolence message UNICEF called him its distinguished national ambassador.
