Tayfun Cora — Biography

Tayfun Cora was born on 5 December 1983 in Vakfıkebir, a district of Trabzon. A retired Turkish footballer standing 1.82 m, he played mostly at right-back and at times as a central defender.

He began in the Trabzonspor youth system in 1998. On 8 August 2002 the club's then manager Samet Aybaba promoted him to the first team, making him a professional; his debut was against Altay. Aybaba started using him on the right of defence. With Trabzonspor he won the Turkish Cup in 2002-03 and 2003-04. In 2005 the club's elimination by Anorthosis in the second qualifying round of the Champions League cost him his place in the squad, and he returned to it under Vahid Halilhodžić. In 2006 he was loaned to Kayserispor for a year before Trabzonspor brought him back. In 2007-08 and 2008-09 he scored six goals in total despite being a defender, and all of his Süper Lig goals came in those two seasons. He signed with Karşıyaka in January 2013 and extended the contract that June; Manisaspor is also among his clubs.

He played for Turkey at under-16, under-19, under-20 and under-21 level, making 11 appearances for the under-21 side, but never played for the senior national team. In 2026 his emotional comments about his former club Trabzonspor were picked up by the local press.
