Tarık Tufan — Biography

Tarık Tufan is a writer known for his novels and his film screenplays. He works across literature and cinema: his books have been translated into many languages, and his screenplays have won awards at film festivals. He still meets readers at book fairs and literary talks.

After Kabataş Boys High School he studied philosophy at Istanbul University and completed a master's degree in sociology at the Middle East and Islamic Countries Research Institute of Marmara University. He made arts and culture programmes for radio and television. His first book, Kekeme Çocuklar Korosu, appeared in 2000, followed by Kraliçenin Pireleri, Ve Sen Kuş Olur Gidersin, Hayal Meyal and Bir Adam Girdi Şehre Koşarak. Şanzelize Düğün Salonu (2015) was later adapted into a television series. Beni Onlara Verme, Düşerken, Kaybolan, Geç Kalan and Âşıklara Yer Yok followed, and his latest novel, Gece Açan Çiçekler, dates from 2025.

In cinema, he won best screenplay at the Istanbul Film Festival in 2009 for Uzak İhtimal and at the Adana Golden Boll Film Festival in 2013 for Yozgat Blues. Anons, on which he is one of the producers, received the Special Jury Prize in the Orizzonti section of the Venice Film Festival in 2018. The screenplay of Geride Kalanlar won production support from the Ministry of Culture in 2022, and in 2023 he wrote the series Şanzelize Düğün Salonu for TRT Tabii.
