Taner Yalçın — Biography

Taner Yalçın (born 18 February 1990 in Cologne, Germany) is a German former professional footballer and coach of Turkish descent who played as a midfielder, standing 1.82 m tall. He began his career in Cologne with ESV Olympia and Fortuna Köln's youth sides before joining 1. FC Köln in 2003, winning the Under-19 Bundesliga West title there and signing a professional contract in 2008; he scored his first Bundesliga goal against FC St. Pauli on 12 September 2010.

Loaned to İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor in 2011, he was signed permanently in 2012 and moved to Kayserispor in 2013; in April 2014 he was shot and injured in an Istanbul nightclub incident alongside fellow professional footballers Gökhan Töre, Hugo Almeida and Manuel Fernandes, after which Kayserispor terminated his contract. He went on to play for Elazığspor, Kayseri Erciyesspor and Kastamonuspor 1966, winning the league with the latter, before returning to Germany for SV Sandhausen in 2016, then signing with İnegölspor in 2018 and Sivas Belediyespor in 2019. He later continued his career in Germany with FC Hürth and SC Elsdorf.

At youth level he represented Turkey's under-18 and under-19 teams and Germany's under-19, under-20 and under-21 teams. After retiring as a player, Yalçın moved into coaching and has managed SC 1960 Hanau since February 2024.
