Taner Savut — Biography

Taner Savut was born on 10 August 1974 in İzmir to a family from Rize. A right back during his playing career, he started out at hometown club İzmirspor, then signed for Fenerbahçe in 1997, moved to Göztepe in 1999 and Siirtspor a year later, and later played for Sakaryaspor, Alanyaspor and Tokatspor before retiring in 2011.

After his playing career he moved into sporting management, serving at Alanyaspor and Manisa FK before being appointed sporting director of Hatayspor in July 2022. He died on 6 February 2023 when his building in Antakya collapsed in the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes, which also killed Hatayspor's Christian Atsu. His body was recovered on 21 February, and he was laid to rest the following day. In 2024 the Turkish Football Federation named its Football Management Certificate Programme in his memory.
