Steven Rogers — Biography
Montgomery-born American basketball player Steven Rogers spent a large part of his career in Turkey: he took Turkish citizenship and played in the Turkish Basketball League with domestic-player status. A shooting guard of 1.96 metres (6'5"), known as a scorer who could also handle guard duties, he now coaches high school teams in Alabama.
After Sidney Lanier High School, he began college at Middle Tennessee State and then moved to Alabama State, where he played his last three seasons. The New Jersey Nets took him in the second round of the 1992 NBA draft, 40th overall, but he never appeared in a regular-season game for them. His professional path ran through a year in Argentina's league and then European clubs. In Turkey he spent five seasons with Tofaş from 1994-95 to 1998-99, then played for Darüşşafaka in 2000-01 and Türk Telekom in 2002-03. He retired as a player in 2003 and returned to Alabama State, serving as an assistant coach for the Hornets from 2005 and also as the university's director of football operations.
In May 2020 he was named head boys basketball coach at Prattville High School. From 2023 to 2025 he coached Booker T. Washington High School in Tuskegee, and in 2025 he became head coach of Central High School in Phenix City. He is a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.
