Sıla — Biography

Born Sıla Gençoğlu on 17 June 1980 in Acıpayam, Denizli, the artist known simply as Sıla moved first to İzmir and then to Istanbul to continue her education. After finishing high school at İzmir Tevfik Fikret Lisesi, she studied jazz vocals at Istanbul Bilgi University and spent time as a backing vocalist for Kenan Doğulu before launching her own career.

Her self-titled debut album arrived in 2007, led by the number-one single "...Dan Sonra". The albums that followed — İmza (2009), Konuşmadığımız Şeyler Var (2010), Vaveyla (2012), Yeni Ay (2014), Mürekkep (2016) and Şarkıcı (2022) — drew both critical praise and commercial success, producing a string of chart-topping singles such as "Sevişmeden Uyumayalım", "Acısa da Öldürmez", "Kafa", "Boş Yere", "Vaziyetler", "Yabancı" and "Hediye". She was named Turkey's best-selling female artist in both 2010 and 2014.

Beyond performing, Sıla is recognized as a prolific songwriter and composer, having written most of her own material and frequently co-composing with Efe Bahadır, in addition to penning lyrics for other artists. She has collected dozens of honors over her career, including four Golden Butterfly Awards and seven Kral TV Video Music Awards, and continued performing concerts across Turkey through the summer of 2026.
