Şeref Has — Biography

Şeref Has is a former international footballer and manager who played for Fenerbahçe without a break for fourteen years, from 1955 to 1969, and was known for his goalscoring and his headers. He scored 169 goals in 605 matches, is among the club's most-capped players and won five Süper Lig titles with the yellow-and-navy side. He died in Istanbul on 13 June 2019, aged 82.

After taking out a licence at Beylerbeyi and playing a year at Beyoğluspor, he turned out for Fenerbahçe's youth side under Sabri Kiraz and moved up to the first team at 18. He played as a forward and midfielder, took on defensive duties late in his career, and captained both Fenerbahçe and the national team several times. With Fenerbahçe he won the Süper Lig in 1958-59, 1960-61, 1963-64, 1964-65 and 1967-68, the Turkish Cup in 1967-68 and the Balkans Cup in 1966-67. He played his last Fenerbahçe match on 29 June 1969, and at Mersin İdman Yurdu, where he ended his playing days, he also coached between 1973 and 1976.

He wore the national shirt 39 times between 1956 and 1967 (37 by some counts), scored once and captained the team ten times; he was in the side that won the 1967 RCD Cup. He is also remembered as the first Turkish footballer to play in Barcelona. A graduate of Kabataş Boys High School, he had a brother, Mehmet Ali Has, who was also a footballer. In later years he sat on Fenerbahçe's High Advisory Council and served on the Turkish Football Federation board from 1992 to 2004.
