Şeref Bey — Biography
Born Ahmet Şerafettin Bey in Istanbul in 1894 and commonly remembered as Şeref Bey, he was a Turkish teacher, footballer, coach and football referee who died on 13 June 1933. He stood out as a versatile figure during the formative years of Turkish organized sport.
Şeref Bey played a founding role in establishing the football branch of Beşiktaş Gymnastics Club, going on to serve as the team's first captain and its manager. While overseeing the club's football department between 1911 and 1925, he guided the side to titles in the Istanbul Ottoman Football League twice (1920 and 1921), the Istanbul Sunday League (1921-22) and the Istanbul Football League (1923-24).
He remains a respected part of the club's institutional memory, and Beşiktaş supporters and officials continue to visit and honor his grave each year even decades after his passing.
