Sercan Sararer — Biography
Sercan Sararer is a winger born and raised in Germany, the son of a Turkish father and a Spanish mother. The high point of his career came in 2011-12, when SpVgg Greuther Fürth won the 2. Bundesliga and rose to the Bundesliga, a success that opened the door to the Turkey national team. He holds Turkish, German and Spanish passports and now plays in the lower German leagues for Regionalliga Südwest side Hessen Kassel.
He joined the Fürth academy at 11, played for the reserves and moved up to the first team in 2008, scoring his first goal on 5 December 2008 with a 90th-minute winner against Mainz. His real breakthrough came in 2010-11 with seven goals; in 2011-12 he played all 34 league matches and, with nine goals and 13 assists, became Fürth's most important player. After Fürth's relegation from the Bundesliga in their first season there, he joined VfB Stuttgart on a free transfer, but despite a four-year contract he played only 54 minutes in his first months. At Fortuna Düsseldorf in 2015-16 he recovered with three goals and eight assists, then returned to Fürth, where injuries limited him to 16 matches.
He was first called up to the national team on 15 May 2012 and started in the 3-1 friendly win over Georgia, setting up Hamit Altıntop's goal. His first competitive appearance came against the Netherlands in 2014 World Cup qualifying, and he played twelve times for the senior national team.
