Şenol Birol — Biography
Şenol Birol (25 November 1937, Rize – 3 March 2022, Rize) was a Turkish former international footballer and coach. Playing as a forward, he spent the bulk of his career with Beşiktaş and Fenerbahçe, featuring in the squad that brought Beşiktaş its first Turkish championship and in the Fenerbahçe side that won two consecutive titles.
One of the most popular forwards of the early 1960s, Birol was known for his hard, accurate shooting. His long-running strike partnership with teammate Birol Pekel became legendary among fans, immortalized in the chant "Şenol Birol gol", and the duo even inspired a 1965 feature film. After his playing career, Birol became one of the founding members of Çaykur Rizespor and served as the club's first head coach.
