Şenay Akay — Biography

The catwalk came first for Şenay Akay, a Turkish model and actress who later became known in television series. The turning point of her modelling career came in 2001, when she won both the Best Model of Turkey and then the Best Model of the World competitions. In the same competition the men's title went to Mehmet Âkif Alakurt.

Born in Antalya, Akay studied at Akdeniz University and started modelling at only 14. Her first screen role came in 1998 as Ester in the series Sıcak Saatler, followed by Yüzleşme (1999) and Bulutbey (2002). In 2004 she appeared as a guest actress in the first season of Avrupa Yakası. Later she played Zeynep in Kara Güneş (2007) and Nadya in the film Pak Panter (2010), and the same year she took a part in the series Kızım Nerede. In 2014 she took part as herself in Güldür Güldür and Arkadaşım Hoşgeldin, and also in the programme Sektörün Enleri that year. The last entry in her filmography is the television film Makas (2016).

Besides acting, Akay modelled at many openings and fashion shows and in 2009 turned to image consulting. In 2012 it was widely reported that she would write a book about her 17 years as a model. In 2021 she married Tarık Soner.
