Selda Akgöz — Biography

Selda Akgöz is a Turkish international goalkeeper. She stands out for her Women's Super League titles and for her place in the Turkey women's national team, which she has also captained. In July 2026 she signed with the Beşiktaş women's football team.

She came to football by a roundabout route: at school she played handball and then volleyball before her teacher suggested football, and from the start she wanted to be a goalkeeper, above all to dive for saves. She obtained her licence in 2009 with Ovacık Gençlik Spor in Karabük, then moved to Fomget Gençlik Spor in Ankara, where she became captain and studied physical education and sports at university. Later she played for Trabzon İdmanocağı, Konak Belediyespor, Kdz. Ereğlispor and Ataşehir Belediyespor; at Konak she was the reserve goalkeeper in the UEFA Champions League, and with Ataşehir she played two matches of the 2018-19 UEFA Women's Champions League qualifying round.

With ALG Spor, whom she joined in 2020, she won the Super League title in 2021-22. In October 2022 she returned to her former club Ankara BB Fomget, winning the league again in 2022-23 and 2024-25 and finishing runner-up in 2023-24, the season in which she was named Best Goalkeeper. After appearing for the Turkey U-17 and U-19 sides, she debuted for the senior national team in a friendly against Georgia on 26 February 2015.
