Selâmi Şahin — Biography

Selâmi Şahin (born 15 August 1948 in Yoncakaya village, Yayladağı, Hatay) is a Turkish musician, singer, composer and lyricist. The fourth of six siblings, his musical talent was discovered by his primary-school teachers, and at the age of 15 he left Hatay to pursue a life in music.

Şahin has said he composed around a thousand songs, some four hundred of which became hits, and his works have been performed by numerous artists. He also contributed songs and scores to films such as Rüzgar (1980), Kaderi Zorlama (1985) and Alın Yazım (1986).

As an actor he appeared in films including Köyün Beş Güzeli (1970), Bağrımdaki Ateş (1981) and Mumya Firarda (2002), and in the TV series Ulan İstanbul (2014). The tribute album Selami Şahin Şarkıları 3 was released in 2026, and he continues to perform, sharing the stage with his son, the singer Lider Şahin.
